To ensure the constant safety and supervision of all children in your care.

To create a comfortable environment that is kind, nurturing and encourages children’s social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive development.

To engage in child focused activities that are age appropriate, interest-based and help to develop key learning areas.

To follow the guidelines set out by the Department of Community Services in their Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

To maintain regular communication with the parents and family, through establishing a daily log book to record activities and special events that occur during the day.

To work together with the family by respecting and suggesting strategies for guiding children’s behaviour.

To clean up after yourself and maintain a tidy work area.

To carryout light household duties relating to the children in care and work areas, whilst maintaining the primary focus of the child. Such as:

  1. Keeping children’s bedrooms and playrooms tidy (encourage children to clean up after themselves).
  2. Washing, hanging, ironing, folding and putting away children’s clothes (Not applicable to some casual babysitting positions).
  3. Changing and washing children’s bed linen (Not applicable to some casual babysitting positions).
  4. Preparing meals and snacks for children, while maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen, e.g. washing dishes.
  5. Running errands such as picking up milk.
  6. Sterilising and preparing babies bottles.
  7. Disinfecting toys and play equipment (Not applicable to some casual babysitting positions).

To be reliable, responsible, punctual, professional and well groomed at all times.

To respect and uphold the family’s privacy and confidentiality.

To provide reasonable notice when scheduled days and times of work need to be altered.

To be as flexible as possible in emergency situations or when alterations are made by the family regarding work schedule.
